    Default oil leak help needed

i went to the dealers last week with a list of niggles including an oil leak that was spotted were the gear box / engine bolt together, i was told to keep an eye on it...
well got it up on the ramp again today and i was confronted with what appears to be fresh oil dripping down of the exhaust bracket onto the belly pan, the engine oil level is ok but dont know how to check the gear box level.
i called the dealers straight away and they said to bring it in on tues so they can have another look at it, i took some pics but they are not the best in the hope that the ones in the know can put my mind at rest about wether i should carry on driving it till tues or not, the gear change action is the same as it was when we brought the car so i'm getting a little tetchy about where it is coming from.

hope someone can help and thanks in advance.

hmm, it also seems to be in line with the oil filter housing as well.. if it is coming out between the engine and gearbox, then it'll be the rear crankshaft oil seal..quite a large job..

is it safe to drive?.. well, if there's oil in the sump then yes, but avoid long runs..

have they left the belly pan off??.. can you raise it and see if it's engine oil ( which it looks like) or reddish gearbox oil?..

sorry for the delay in reply m8 just dropped swmbo of in town for a hen night....
anyway the oil is not red so must be from the engine and yes it does appear to come from the oil filter housing aswell, is this a common fault or not and how long will it take to do cos a courtesy car not avv till 23rd of this month, dont want much info do i mate ?

i'd first off take a look at the seal on the filter cap. it's just an 'o' ring..and it it's leaking past the seal, then it'll drop down onto the exhaust, just like in the 1st photo....i'd try a new seal there..

if it is the rear oil seal, then i'd suspect excess crankcase pressure as that normally pops the rear oilseal.. either that or a stcuk oil pressure releif valve in the oil pump..

if it's under warranty, push for a quicker check-in, and a rental car FOC from VX customer services..

the stains on the pipe look like the residue from the oil filter drain ..they have a yellow cap on them you wind the oil filter out so far and it drains into a small pipe fitting that you put a hose onto and into the drainer you then change the filter and replace the 2 oil seals .....if they aint removed the yellow cap and used a drain pipe (lots a people dont know what it is there for) the oil that was traped/ drained out has made the stains on the pipe (nowt to worry about)..the oil leak from the box / engine area does look like the rear crank main wich has been seen on these engines before if it keeps leaking they will need to remove the box and have a look at the seal ....dont leave it too long as it may contaminate your clutch plate .......
