    Default Clutch problems

    Hi all
I have a 1.8 sri and it started getting stiff to get in gear and clutch was slipping.it was fine one day then this happened
I have changed the clutch and csc and now goes in gear fine but still slipping like it won't disengage. Read somewhere it could be clutch master cylinder does this sound right? Don't really want to remove box again if can help it

At the risk of oversimplifying the problem, you did bleed the CSC after changing?

And just to point out, the vectra clutch is no different to any other system. So explaining this to anyone who has experience with clutches should be able to help. Itís not special in any way or have itís own quirks, itís just a standard clutch set up.

If itís slipping then itís disengaging isnít it? You want it to engage to transmit the turning motion.

If your clutch pedal is nice and firm, it is not the master cylinder... that leaves the csc as the culprit...unless you have a DMF and you didn't chance that than it must be the CSC not bled properly.

Worst case will be taking the lot apart again.

But Poley, would a faulty csc cause the clutch to slip as the OP says it’s slipping? This is where I can’t work out what is actually going on

It can get stuck and not retract properly.. I had that before... remember the clutch that imploded? Did the same thing, so I needed a new clutch and CSC that is why I had a new one in the shed... that i used a few months ago.

Thanks for the replies looks like I'll be stripping it down again this week but just out of interest do you mean the csc needs to be bled separate from the system itself? It's a new one and bled the system but I couldn't work out how the fluid gets down to the csc when the bleed nipple is above it? I might sound daft but this is the first hydraulic clutch I've done ones before were cable

If you read about on some platforms you have/supposed to do it manually as risk of damage to csc over pressuring and damaging it. But done mine same way as you. There is a manual bleed by press down pedal, hold down, bleed system lock off then release pedal slowly repeat 5/10 times.
