Car has suddenly started screeching on start up, its screeching on/off even on idle. when driving its hardly there until im slowing down and turn to park.
All videos on youtube pointing to belt with similar noise.

I'd concur with the youtube videos, it's a belt with a similar noise.

no it will go away by itself, after all cars don't need maintenance
of course replace the belt and while you are getting parts get the tensioner for it too....

Today battery light came on dash and squeaking vanished. Might be alternator Thats been making noise?

Or could it still be belt causing all these issues?

The squeaking is due to the belt slipping. As it's slipping, it's not turning the alternator as much as it should be hence the battery light.
Fix the belt before you go changing the alternator.

Took car to mechanics, light came on. Mechanic used multi-meter and said Alternator aint charging. Within minutes lost steering etc etc. Left with mechanic.
Quoted Alternator £150 & £120 labour.

I'm going to channel my inner Dog_Book:
What's the point in asking for advice if you're not going to follow it? Other people have told you it's the belt and/or tensioner (you even said that yourself) then you've found another symptom of the faulty belt and I've explained why it's a symptom, not the cause.
Now you're going to be out £270 with a battery light still on because your new alternator isn't getting driven by the faulty belt.
If you do decide to continue, FYI you can get your existing alternator refurbed for £80ish and have it off and back on yourself with 2 hours work, and that's when you don't know what you're doing.
