    Engine : 1.9 TDCi

    Year : 2005

    Default Is it worth fixing

Hi everyone this is my first time posting so not sure I'm in the right place or if this has been asked before,

But basically I have a 2005 pre-facelift 1.9 CDTi Vauxhall Vectra breeze, and the issue I have is at the weekend as the car was sat on the driveway idling the cambelt snapped,

So I'm just wondering what damage has been done and is it worth fixing I am on an extremely tight budget and honestly thinking of just scraping it,

I've tried to find out if its non interference engine or not and according to the log book its a 119 v8 engine anyway any advice you have will be very much appreciated.

It's the 120cdti... last time I checked a replacement engine with low miles is around 200 to 350...it's the option I would look at but only if the engine is damaged... and the rest of the car is in really good condition. So I would pull off the head to check it first...

    But that is me.

Thanks for the reply Northpole the body work is in pretty good nick apart from the bonnet which I've been meaning to change anyway, I have looked at replacement engines the cheapest I found near me was just under 500 quid and that didn't include the delivery costs,

I need a car ASAP so I'm thinking of buying a cheap run around and then get the Vauxhall looked at later in the month and take it from there.

    Ok deffo an 8v then.
Only asked on the off chance it was a detuned 16v which can normally be fixed after belt snap.
Vauxhall introduced the 8v for cheaper company car tax and underestimated the amount they would sell so ran out of engines on production.
So to get round this they fitted detuned 16v engines until the next supply came.

I'm guessing then there's definitely going to be internal damage and not worth fixing or really expense to fix mate.

I'm going to get a cheap run around and then in the better weather I will strip the car down and see if there is any damage to the engine mate which I'm expecting there to be I'm guessing it will be mostly bent valves.
