Default Heated seat issues - Trying to troubleshoot

    Hi all

Trying to get to the bottom of the drivers heated seat switches off after around 60 seconds. I reckon it is the bottom pad with the temp sensor but at £134.20 I am searching for a second opinion...

All seems well with the seat until I measured some values at the connector from the seat loom to the bottom seat pad and compared them to the values of the working passenger side.

In a nutshell all the values are comparable between the two seats apart from one voltage value taken from the black wire in the pic below. On the passenger side connector the voltage is 6v and the drivers side is 10.4v. Could this perhaps indicate a failed heating element although a continuity test on the element showed a closed circuit with no resistance.

Any help would be appreciated. :-)

    Hi
I'm not an expert in electronics but if both seats have identical circuitries (which makes sense) having a different voltage would make think that there might be something not working before the connector.
Can you test the heating elements changing the black wire for a 10v external source?

Could it be some fuse or relay?

Hi John, thanks for chipping in

All relays seem to be doing what they should and fuses are fine. I had it in my head that the black wire was the 'out' voltage from the element pointing to the element side of the connector. Now I'm not so sure!
It seems from the forums that mention this fault that it is down to three things. Seat pad fault, wiring manufacture fault or connector problem. I have eliminated the connectors and cannot detect any broken wiring in the loom which points to the seat pad. I'm just a bit hesitant to replace it due to the cost!

I'd say remove the wires from the connector and clean the tips than put it back together...might just solve it... as this reminds me of my foglight problem I had...constant had a bulb out warning but both bulbs where working just fine no burned fuses... checked both sides, one side was fine, no rust etc.... the other side had rust on the housing where the ground cable was connected... I cleaned it up, it went away for a few days and it came back... in the end I replaced both foglights, never had a problem with them again...

but when checking voltage it was about the same on the foglight with the rust replaced them and power is normal... opened up the old one rusty one to check the wiring further down and it was rusty too... never went any further with it as I replaced them... and that was about 2 years ago..

Sounds like a similar issue that the Astra-J has with heated seats.

Not sure if you need to be a member and logged in to see this How2 on this Astra forum.
