Tom2811 Vectra VXR diary

Hi Folks,
I thought it was about time I started a diary about the car I’ve now owned for over 12 months.
I had been looking at vectra vxrs over the last few years, but Could never make my mind up. I then got the bug again and started shopping around.
I saw a couple for sale ~ 1 Arden blue and 1 in silver, then I started looking on this forum and one that was for sale was someone on here (ST200 - excellent job of looking after the car!)
I rang for an appointment to go and view it, fell in love with it immediately. I was speaking to the sales guy and told him that there was a blue one available elsewhere, he told me to go away and look at that but could guarantee I would be back for the silver one!
After weeks of trying to view the blue one, and lots of excuses from them I went and looked at it. I was disappointed, there were about 3 different blues on it, it wasn’t running right even after he said the timing chain had been done. He said he was going to sell it at a loss (what he paid for it), but it was just too rough for me.
So, straight away I phoned up and put a deposit on the silver one. They agreed to do some of the work I wanted done on it and had a bit of a discount. I went and picked it up on 27th December 2019 and haven’t stopped smiling since!

@Tom2811 looks like you're doing a grand job with my wife's old barge. I tried to keep her as sweet as I could so hopefully you'll get many more happy years of motoring.

One job I never got round to sorting was the tailpipe trims. It always bugged me that the lower part of the trims had the chrome eaten away but nothing a fresh chrome plating couldn't sort out, I just never got round to getting it done.

Cheers bud. I have polished them up and there is some black scarring. I will get round to doing it, probably in the summer now.

How's the VXR doing, still keeping it clean and you mentioned you had a few mods so what's been done?

i haven’t forgotten about the diary, will be updating it soon

Car is doing good, due for a mini service now. I’ve just repaired the drivers rear arch today, there was a bit of bubbling so just nipped it in the bud.

Hi All
Time for an update…. I’ve had the car for just over 2 years now and in that time have done the following:

*Replaced pads and discs all round
*Shock Absorbers and springs all round
*Carbon fibre effect around the doors to replace the black
*Aluminium door pins
*Upgraded head unit
*Painted front fog surrounds body colour as they were pitted and discoloured (also cleared out fog lenses as they were fogged up)
* Fitted courtenay sport front seat covers
*Sourced a rear cargo net from scrapyard and fitted
*Changed spark plugs and done multiple oil changes
*Got rid of the second cat and centre pipe (can be refitted)
*Tyres changed and 4 wheel alignment done

Most recently the water pump decided to give way and leaked all over a car park. So I took it off the road and decided to change all the suspension arms and bushes (all cleaned up and painted). I also painted the brake callipers, had the wheels refurbed and cleaned and under sealed the underbody.

Car was then MOTd and passed
