Default 2.2 Automatic Manual Mode Not Working

    Hi Guys and Girls,

First time posting, been a lurker for a while now. Even before owning a Vectra or an account on here.

I have a problem with my 2007 2.2 Direct Elite Estate Automatic on 150k miles. Car drives perfectly in every way, been serviced every 6-8k miles in my ownership since 2018/120k miles. No lights on the dash or any weird quirks.

Now the problem: When moving the automatic gear selector over to the left for manual mode, the dash quickly changes from D to a gear number and then back to D. Manual mode will not work even with the selector moved over. With the selector moved over to manual mode and D on the dash it will act as if it was just in normal D/automatic.

Any ideas or any tests i can perform? I do have a very popular scanner from eBay and know my way around it. It rhymes with Bopcom.

    Cheers,
    Ed

right the first thing you should do is use said scanner to check for errors on the automatic gearbox.. i'm quite sure you should find at least one fault that points to the problem, but in general from what i've been reading and know about automatic gearboxes with manual selection is that if it doesn't work something is wrong with the control box, could be a case of a swap (won't be simple on the vectra as you'll need one that comes with it's code and is not coded to the previous car anymore) or a cable that has rubbed through or makes false contact somewhere...

i hope for you it's the latter...

    Hi Mate,

I will give it a scan and see if anything comes up. Was hoping to be armed with some info before I did so, thanks! Ill be honest, I'm sure the manual mode was working fine prior to me messing around with the trim near the selector.

Ill give it a scan and take it from there.

    Cheers!

Just to add to this, in case anyone stumbles across this thread and has the same problem. It seems some Volvo's have the same gearbox and the same problem has been reported. See below threads. I will be checking them and scanning the car this week. I'll post back with my findings.

Bit of a delay to the update. Managed to scan the car, as you'd expect many different logged faults as it hadn't been cleared for a while. Cleared all the logged faults and re-scanned the car. 1 fault remained present on the "Shift Level Module".

The fault listed is: P1802 - "Manual Shifting" Switch Circuit Low voltage

It does seem pretty safe to say that maybe messing around with the trim around the shift lever truly has damaged something. At least there were no other faults and it does seem that the autobox and associated ECU are OK.
