man just drop in another engine yourself i mean a cdti 120 complete engine is 250 quid i would do tat myself it's not hard to do at all and saves you a lot of hassle with garages... i would source one from someone that brakes vectra's for a living and make sure that the one i get is low mileage and has recently had the timing done and water-pump replaced..
than i would break out the tools and set aside a weekend to do it, or if you are furloughed do it asap... so your car runs again at a bargain price... will be needing fresh fluids alround and fresh filters but hey at least you don't have to worry about the timing and water-pump...

but that is what i would do... that is if you really like the car... it beats buying another one hands down (as they say better the devil you know)

Because there are very few mechanics these days only part technicians that just replace parts not bothering to find out why a part failed.

had my time waiting for ‘V’ to find a problem with ecu waste off time. final word was wait till it doesn’t work then will know .

got an independent bloke in 20minutes ecu is knacked....

also asked ‘V’ about doing chains on the 2.8 said they don’t think they’d be able to do them as haven’t got the tools to do it.....

so guess what ‘V’ don’t get anything to do with one anymore.

Oww I can pull an engine apart and fix it myself, I was just thinking that the cost of buying parts and having a mechanic sort the problem out is a lot higher, than a DIY low mileage engine swap with service history or proof of the timing and waterpump done...

Last time I checked a cdti 150 with proof of timing and waterpump change costed 350 pounds with all ancillaries except for the turbo. A cdti 120 with low milage and fresh timing and water pump with proof was 250 delivered on a pallet at your house....

I know what I would do... instead of pulling the engine apart I would swap it. Because cost wise it's the cheapest solution... plus you'll be left with plenty of spare parts from the problem engine....

Just take it apart and you'll find the problem quick enough. Keep all the good parts for later or sell it to the scrappy. To recover some of your money

Sadly kids and shiftwork mean I simply don't have the time.
It will be a shame if the car is scrapped - i've never seen another digital green xp estate.

The most common thing I have heard from the garages I have used is " not something we would want to get involved in."

Easy to see why really - if you can turn 2 hour jobs around in an hour or less you don't need to take on a ball ache.

I would look on FB and look for one, a cheap replacement with a full years MOT... than swap parts over from this one if there is a need for it... than when done call the scrappy and sell the old one to them... it might just come down to the price of a repair of your old car.

Update time. Got the car back but not repaired. Garage admitted they simply didn't have the time to do the job. Easy to see why.MOT repairs are much less involved than a partial engine strip.
The car has gone to another garage ( VX specialist) so hopefully the car can be saved.

One thing I have noticed - cars that were £1k a year ago are now £1500 +. Looking at some of what people are demanding money for they would be better weighing it in.
I would sooner spend money getting mine fixed than buying somebody else's grief.

I have no idea where you look for a replacement vectra but i would be looking on FB... some really good cars at the quoted 750 with a full years mot... that said i would stick with the car i already have and fix it myself but that is me... did you look at just dropping in a replacement engine? again look on FB groups and from the lot of sellers vauxhall parts sellers Ikrami Soliman, would be one of the persons i would ask for a quote on a complete replacement engine. like i said before the last time I saw a cdti with low mileage going from him was around 350 asking price that was with all ancillaries (no gearbox) but with the turbo all and other stuff
