Default 2.2 direct rough running/compression test

My apologies for posting in the wrong section

Ok guys so Iíve got a 2.2 direct SRI, had a few missfire issues But cured this with a new coil pack, further issues and advice needed.

Sometimes runs rough but always runs, sounds like there is possibly an exhaust leak but there isnít, Sounds very tappety, sometimes a strong smell of fuel and fumes in the cabin, occasionally stalls during hard acceleration and blows a lot of white/blue smoke when you boot it, bit of mayo in the cap and loads in the breather pipe/filter, ive done a compression test and these are the results

    CYL 1 - 160psi, CYL 2 - 150psi, CYL 3 - 180psi, CYL 4, 180psi
    Any advice or diagnosis ???

Posting in the wrong section isn't an issue as mods havnt done anything about it for years so things are all over the place, however what i was on about is seeing this are you've posted in as there should be more info in here rather than the open troubleshooting area. These 2.2's seem to be a right pain, at least with the cdti you know when the egr is at fault or swirl flap comes off and with a 2.8t you know it needs chains due to the error codes. The 2.2 sound like a royal pain and i don't read up on them so ignore posts but you'll definitely need to start looking as there's less and less owners on here now.

The compression deviation points to a headhasket problem, especially with mayo in the breather...

If I was you i would pull the head off have it skimmed replace all the valves etc and put new headgasket on...

Or replace the whole engine with a good low mileage one... it is all about cost so look at what the cheapest route is to solve this problem.

Thanks for the input northpole, I plan on doing a wet compression test on Thursday and will compare results to see if it narrows down the problem, would a head gasket problem result in burning oil without using/loosing coolant?

It can it all depends on where the gasket has failed

I’m thinking I need another engine to be completely honest, just buy another lump and do the chains whilst it’s out, and a new clutch while I’m at it, where’s the best place to be buying an engine from??

Well i would look around if I was you my local scrappy only keeps engines from cars that didn't fail mot and are fairly low mileage... but when I need another engine I actually look on eBay and check the specialist breakers... i have bought a few engines that way, not necessarily for the vauxhall brand by the way, but a whole load of other brands....

Ps just browse around first before buying any engine... sometimes you run into a good one being sold at dump prices because they don't want it hanging around to long.

And look on Facebook also, actually find ikrami soliman and ask him if he's breaking a 2.2 direct vectra or signum... he normally breaks them for a living but doesn't keep the engines for long...
