I'm not perfect by any means, but i do try hard to use something as it was intended. I would have found the right part number then google searched the part or on eBay then looked at pictures and counted it like that as the chances of someone having the correct pulley in their hands is low. If you've taken the original pulley off wouldn't it be easier to count that and compare to the new one?
Sorry i just find following instructions really easy see-

I did get the part number and have Googled it and bought a new one but the garage says that they cannot time the car so they tried the old pulley after spot welding the key way and that works fine so the old one has 25 teeth but the new one 26 so why would the same part number be different hence the question.
So does anyone know how many teeth the gear should have for my car
    Cheers

See, now you've actually explained it, it makes sense.

I'm not having a go here but there wouldn't have been confusion had you proofread your original post.

So, the garage cannot time the car with the new wheel you provided but the old one works fine? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you maybe ordered the one for the DTH engine. Use that link I posted to find the correct part number.
