Default Swapping air intake on 1.8 vvt for VXR air intake

So I'm not looking at major mods/tuning as i know you won't get much from these engines but... I am looking at basics, I've done the airbox mod, I think it's more placebo effect than anything, but does seem to accelerate smoother in mid range. I have a Pipercross panel filter on it's way, I've read up about people swapping the air intakes for the larger off of a VXR.

What I want to know is which pipes are people swapping?

My obvious concern is the difference in setup under the hood

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated

No idea on 1.8 tuning but I do know 2 things. 1. The pic above isn’t a Z28NEx it’s V6 Cdti. 2. A NA engine like yours needs high air speed to perform, as soon as you increase the ID of the pipe work to the inlet manifold the air speed will slow down which is bad.
Id suggest reading up on NA petrol tuning basics, you’d be better off increasing the exhaust gas scavenging first which of course is going to cost ££

Thanks for the response and the heads up man, it's mostly the airbox and pipe position that the pics for reference, I'm not sure if it's the intake pipes pre or post air box that some are replacing, I'm not looking at spending big money as I know it's not worth in terms of gains.

they either get a sport panel filter and remove the air flap in the bottom of the box, or they go boy racer and buy a stupid cold air intake that has one of those stupid open filters on it that sucks in hot air constantly thus defeating the goal and loose BHP but gain more induction noise, which makes them think it's faster... it's not it's just noisier, and this stuff has been proven a a million times over...

if you really want to gain some BHP just use a panel sport filter from a reputed brand, and remove the airflap from the airbox.. you could add another cold air intake to the box if you so desire as long as it sucks in cold air n is high enough not to suck up water when it rains, but i wouldn't bother with that. the sport panel filter and airbox flap removal will be more than sufficient.

Cheers man, I've taken the flap out the airbox, new panel filter soon. New exhaust being fitted today (not stupid straight through), I'll be getting all air pipes off for cleaning and TB etc.
I know some have swapped air intake pipe for vxr but I have no idea which pipe this is though,

it probably is the cold air intake found on the VXR that they put on... most diesels have it too... well mine does and that is the low powered 2.0 DTI..

it connects to a funnel that sits behind the top of the slam-panel than from that part it goes to the bottom of the airbox.... that is probably what they are on about.
