Default Home Electrics Help with Dimmer Switch

    Gents,

Im having a bit of a mare and need some help.

Basically, I have 2 dimmer switches in each of the 2 bedrooms, I want to put another one in the spare room. I have an LED bulb and also a Halogen one. Have tried both.

Basically, I have bought 2 or 3 LED compatible dimmers, one is identical to what I have in one of the other rooms.

However, the dimmer will NOT work in the 3rd room. The bulb works in the other room with the other dimmers, but it wont work in the 3rd room and its driving me round the bend.

From what I can see, the wiring is IDENTICAL. So the majority of the house was re-wired, but from what I can see, the sod didnt change the wiring to the upstairs light fittings, but I still get a thick red and thich black cable (same as the other rooms). ONLY different in the 3rd room is that the earth wire is not available to screw to the back of the switch (is that an issue)? The green earth cable seems to be looped back into itself so the end isnt showing, and im reluctant to expose it in case its not meant to be used??

    Can anyone help!!

Its driving me round the frigging bend!

Could it be that the wiring to the light fitting is not good enough to cope with the dimmer? BAFFLED!!!

I recently changed switches in the living room to brushed metal, from plastic.
The only thing I noticed was that the earth which ended at the metal back box, had to also be connected to the back of the metal faceplate.
    Previously had dimmer switches.
But they do have 3 wires to each switch (L1, L2 & COM).

Hmm, so do I releasr the green wire and connect that too? But surely connecting that back up to the faceplate would have no impact to the functionality ? Right? Mine is terminated but just taped up, its not connected to backbox or faceplate.

All other rooms had gree wire connected to the faceplate on previous switches so did the same.

It also depends on what light fittings you have as some don’t dim !
Try the switch in another room to make its not duff.
And if you have 2 switch’s for same light might not work.
