External USB HDD Auto-Run/Start on TV-how to stop it?
Guys,
After some help please as this is driving me mad.
I have an external USB HDD, which I use on my TV to record and also watch movies which are previosuly downloaded, etc.
However every time I switch the TV on it asks for me to select either open folder or check, or just close it.
I guess its some sort of auto-start?
How can I stop that from coming up?
Its only on this drive, I have another on there which is OK.
Thanks.

That depends on the hdd you are using..If it is a big brand drive it has preloaded software on the memory that does makes it do this... I suggest you get another casing for it that is universal... take the drive out and put it in that problem sorted.

Really, is it that simple? The casing is holding the rights?
Its a Maxstor.

There you go and yes it is that simple

I'll wait until the warranty expires then rip it open.

well no, not the casing, inside the casing is a little board that connects to the SATA connector of the HDD, this board has a memory chip that holds some software for backup and other things... that would be the same reason why when you connect it to a windows 10 machine the first time it'll ask you if you want to use it as a backup drive... the universal cases do not have this proprietary software on it thus making them straight forward converters from SATA to USB 3.0 (with backward compatibility to USB 2.1 and 1.1) So if you take out the drive and put into one of those universal SATA to USB casings the drive will not be filtered through that proprietary software... aka a direct connection to USB = no software intervention = sorted.
