Hi looking to buy Insignia 1.8vvt but concerned about M32 gearbox failures Have been informed they were up dated/improved in later models. What year did this occur & how could I be sure when viewing? thank you

They still fail regardless, did you read when I mentioned my moo’s Mokka box bearings failed the other year? Avoid.

This may help you https://stillrunningstrong.com/car-m...rbox-bearings/ You can try to have more oil put in ( 3ltrs of Fuch Titanfluild which i used in my astra or some other good quality gearbox oil) unlike the 2.2 ltrs that Vauxhall put in. But like Dog_Book says best avoided. A google search for M32 Gearbox trouble will fill a few hours reading for you.
My father in law has a mint low mileage Insignia Elite 1.8vvt with full history and I swear I can hear the gearbox whine....
Also had a Vectra 2.2 with the M32 box which I got up to 122k before selling it very cheaply on to a ‘friend’; I found that the stereo just wasn’t loud enough to drown out the gearbox noise any longer. Gearbox literally exploded (well a nice hole through the bell housing) at around 130k. So in theory you could get some reasonable miles but a worn gearbox will easily ruin your enjoyment of a car and quickly empty your wallet if it needs work. Easy tell for serious wear on the M32 (aside for listening out for whines) is to stick the gear lever in 1st and let go of it; if it moves significantly back when you pull away it’s needing a rebuild. My 2.2 would kick back about 1-1/2 inches if I let go of the lever. My current Vectra with an F40 doesn’t move at all. Go for a 2.0 (diesel or petrol) and you’ll have less bother.
Thanks Does the 2.0L petrol have a different gearbox then and not the M32 crap?
