Car drives really well, no flat spots at all

Waiting in the queue for the tip at Earlestown and it went to 90 degrees. The revs went up and down and the EML light came on.

Going back to garage tomorrow. At least I'm furloughed still.

Just a thought, but I would try replacing the battery and see if there is any difference then, but leave it all disconnected for a good half hour so everything powers down properly and start from scratch with a fresh new battery

I was speaking to a neighbour who had a Passat that had a MAF issue. He bought one from ebay and put it on. A couple of days later the problem appeared again. His son read on forums to use an original part as the aftermarket ones are fine but when the load increases they fail.

He bought an original one and the problem went away.

I looked at the original Siemens one I had 5WK9606 and ordered an original part from a scrappy on eBay. Put it on today and have driven around and where the other MAFs came with an EML light this one hasn't. The revs are stable even when the temp gets to 90 degrees. It's still smelling a bit rich though so I'm not out of the woods.

Going to test it more tomorrow.

Drove it yesterday on a 10 mile round journey.
The drive was an average 30-40mph.

When starting the car there sounds like a rattle on the exhaust underneath the front seats. Only happens when it is cold.

The temp stayed at 70 degrees until 4.7 miles then it slowly rose to about 80.

    Is this normal.

The rattle underneath could well just be something like the flexi pipe rattling until it's warmed up (mine is quiet when cold, but rattles when it's warm as the outer sheathing has come off it's weld points), but it's hard to tell with a brief description bud

Got a lambda sensor off eBay to replace the pre-cat one.

Did my nemesis trip to the tip today and the car performed really well. No lumpy idle and no change when the temperature rose.

No EML light and there was no fuel smell also.

I will monitor it but it's the first time that the light hasn't come on making that trip.
