clutch
hi all I am new to the forum,
I have a 2.8 petrol Vectra vxr having a slight slip of the clutch when accelerating, well I think its the clutch??
It only really happens when in high gears more noticeable on a motorway. when accelerating from 2000rpm in 6th/5th gear with sport on
other than that the clutch seems to be fine in 1st/2 no slipping or noise.
only had the car 3 weeks
how long will this last?
thanks

It will last as long until the clutch completely fails.

Hi,and welcome.
Seems like you bought a bit a car with a known fault.Asking how long a slipping clutch will last is like asking how long a piece of string is..sorry but no one can tell you that one.
Was the car bought privately or through a garage?..either way Id go back and see what they say.

Welcome as said if the clutch is already slipping it's time for a replacement... either go back if you have warranty but for some reason i think you've bought it with the fault stated... in that case just get the new parts yourself and either diy it... you only need regular tools to do it ( a good socket set and maybe a few special sockets) but all in all it can be done.. i replaced my own clutch twice, reason being the one i got was a bad brand and the clutch actually broke on the centre metal piece that holds the friction material... got a replacement from another well known manufacturer and replaced it myself.. but whatever you buy stay away from a brand called Transmech clutches... as that was the brand i bought and although the friction material would have lasted at least another 7 years the metal they use was inferior, thus causing the clutch to fail prematurely...
There are a few howto's on the forum and loads of howto's on youtube... but it is a big task.. but it's worth doing yourself, especially if you bought the car with the clutch slipping as a known fault... Oh yeah it took me 5 days to actually sort it out mainly because i didn't rush myself, and everything i remove gets a complete cleanup (metal wire bush down, degrease session and a full inspection on cracks and ware) and overall state checkup before i put it back on the car ( meaning i look for perished rubbers and seals and replace if necessary) ... if i wouldn't do it that way i probably would have finished it in 2 days... but that is just me...
