clunking noise issue and steering wander

Hi all got an issue with car pulling to the left .Jacked it up and checked wheels at 9 and 3 oclock and 6 and 12 oclock. 9 and 3 oclock i can hear a clunking noise when moving it side to side .No helper so trying to figure noise out .ball joints seem ok and track rod ends look ok but i have a feeling the noise is coming from inner track rods.Both sides make a similar noise.Car steering feels like its tramlining when i hit a small bump.Should there be any noise when moving wheel from side to side at 9 and 3 oclock with both wheels jacked up. ?

Car is 1.8 petrol 2006 vec c z18xer.Cheers

sounds like there is play in the steering rack you need someone to rock steering whilst you check for play

Been out today and jacked car up again .Both wheels off the ground and ignition key to 1st position so wheel can be turned.Tried again with 3and 9 and 6 and 12 oclock positions and all feels solid .Clunking noise was cause steering lock was on yesterday and that was the noise doh had a brain fart i think.When i turn the full wheel by hand on the wheel i do hear a creaking noise and am sure a slight grating noise but cannot put my finger on it.Springs look fine was thinking strut mounts but not 100% sure .Baffling me this one.Main issue is the steering which is a bit vague.no noises from power steering and fluid is ok.
