Yeah I'm fine with jump starting and polarity I'm an electrician. Guess I will just crank the hell out of it and see what happens. How do Vauxhall get the damn things going?? Is it worth the brake cleaner up the intake trick or not??

you can give it a go but i never use it, i either use a car to jump start it or do the tow starting.. i prefer the latter it works so much faster... it forces the system to self bleed... just count yourself lucky the CDTI's self bleeds.. the DTI's don't you have to make sure the lines to the injectors are free of air, the lines to the diesel pump are free of air and the filter is free of air... than you can try and start it but usually it doesn't want to go of it's own battery power... a tow start or a car jump start is the only quick solution... and i prefer the tow-start method... it works really fast the last time i did it started the car before the end of my street... the time after that i jump started it with a running car and it took about 20 minutes before it actually started...

that should be all as from what i read you've already brimmed up the filter and tried to purge the injector feeds from air, pump wise there isn't alot you can do only to make sure their isn't air in the lines going to and from it. and you've done all of that.

PS not sure if you've got the bumper of the car but if you have the outside temperature sensor cable disconnected the car won't start so make sure you got that one connected also.. i found that out yesterday as i had my bumper off ( this is the cable that connects both the foglights and the temp sensor on my car, it's fitted inside the bumper, but as soon as that is disconnected the car will not start and throws DTC's for various things all related to a connection problem)

Thanks very much for your detailed reply it is much appreciated. as you say I have just about done everything and logic suggests it is nothing other than air in the system. I am going to give it a go tow starting it but I might wait until the situation has calmed down generally (??????) as I won't be using it anyway as it is a second vehicle. Bumper is on but thanks for the info seems a bit daft of vauxhall i guess there must be a good reason for it!

I did this when I changed my starter. I just reached below the starter and clicked it back in place

The crankshaft sensor I presume, sits below the starter to the left of it as you look down? Mine seems to have an odd connector that is quite "floppy", bit like a miniature ball joint, is this normal? It doesn't seem to be like the usual push fit ones, unless I am looking at the temperature sensor.

Crank the engine over, if the tacho/rev counter does NOT move then its the crank sensor connector as explained above
