If so i would make a steel blanking plate of a minimum thickness of 3 mm but preferably 5-6mm and use exhaust sealant between the manifold and the blanking plate and just bolt the egr pipe with a new gasket to the blanking plate. Or you could fit the egr pipe without a gasket to the exhaust manifold blanking plate and fit a thin blanking plate at the inlet manifold to egr valve so that it seals for the incoming air from the turbo.
Yes I want to blank egr at exhaust manifold and still have egr pipe bolted to manifold.
My plate is 1.5mm stainless steel.
I think it's thick enough to withstand the heat from exhaust manifold.
I have exhaust sealant and can try to use that between manifold and plate.
Why must it be minimum 3mm?
I've got some construction steel but that is 12mm I think and it will be very hard to use that and still be able to get egr pipe on manifold.
I also have blanked of egr on inlet manifold with 1.5mm stainless steel plate

Why 3mm minimum ? just belt and braces and i think and it would be less likely to possibly warp and you don't want that as it's a bit awkward getting to to start remaking and resealing if it does warp/leak. 1.5mm seems thin BUT i suppose thinking about it how thick are exhaust pipes on motorcycles ect.

I gave the reason for a thick plate earlier in the thread, and don’t forget motorcycles are not diesels with very high exhaust gas temperatures are they? Also we are in the manifold area not the pipe work. You’ve got 2 cdti’s, look how big the casting is on them.

I've got 3 cdtis for my pains lol. I don't disagree with you thats why i thought at least 3mm and prefereably 5-6mm and thats were i'm going when i do mine . As i'm not sure what the temperature difference would be petrol to diesel at the manifold all i would say it would be VERY hot. Do tuners not make stainless manifolds for diesels like they do for petrol engines?

Yes of course, but not a large casting with a little hole covered by a thin plate that would heat up more than the casting. It’s also why it’s recommended to remove or blank the egr system off there as the hot exhaust gases moreso from a tuned engine have been known to burst the water cooler.

I had the same happen it just bends I used the collor off the egr pipe as a support and it worked very well

if i was him i would just cut some out of that 1.2mm stainless steel he has, (use the bought one as a template) stack-em up and be done with it, he only needs a proper seal on the first one anyway.. than do the same on the other side of the pipe done.
