Default Network Q Warranty Plus. Is it worth it?

Just after peoples opinion on the Network Q Warranty Plus.

I bought my Vectra June 2006 from a VX dealer. The car was only 10 months old when I bought it but it came with a years Network Q Warranty anyway.

Now I have a letter from VX saying I can pay £199 for a years Warranty Plus which includes 12 months Full AA cover.

I am not too fussed about the AA cover as I can get RAC cover on our family scheme for only £10-20 a year.

As the car is now 21 months old I still have 15 months normal VX warranty left, dont I?
So is it worth paying £199 for the Warranty Plus?
What extra cover does it give you?

If I DONT keep the Warranty Plus going will it mean I CANNOT take it out again after the normal 36 month VX warranty has expired?

    Thanks,

    Mark

I am wondering about this too. My car was 11 months old when I bought it last year, but VXL have asked me for £399 to extend the NQ warranty for a year, not £199!

    I am thinking def. not!

Not much over the Vx one you have I think. Think it covers additional things like clutch and brake wear.

No, you can still take out the Net Q extended warranty - but do it just before the three years is up or it will be more expensive.

The £199 is only a 'top up' to the Vx warranty. The £399 is a full blown Net Q cover once the Vx warranty has run out. I took out the two year cover as I plan to have my car until at least June 2008 - and in the first year of the Net Q warranty (i.e. year four of the car) it needed some bits and bobs done which justified the first year's cost. The other thing about having a Net Q warranty is that if you ahve a problem, as long as Net Q authorise the dealer to do work they are more likely to replace things they think are the problem. I had a water pump replaced when I was complaining of a sqeaking noise from the belt area. They found that the bearing on the pump had a bit of play so got it replaced. Wasn't the cause of the noise (that was later diagnosed) but I got a new pump which may have failed later in life -so I was glad to have it replaced sooner.

These thread give a bit more info about my Network Q warranty experience - from buying it to using it etc.

    Getting it initially

    Glad I got it!

    Extended it to two years.

Mine is just 3 1/2 years old. I had the Net Q warranty given me, does this include the MOT part of it? Think yours is a bit new? What I do know is that I had new rear shockers worth over £200 that weren't covered on Vx warranty and for a quality warranty compared to a RACone its second to none but unless you read the small print on your Vx warranty its hard to say! They've just offered me half price AA membership so can I have your Net Q warranty???

Duncan: Your sort of right about the £199 vs £399.
According the leaflet that came with the letter the price is based on the age of the car when you bought it:

Age of vehicle At Purchase Price

Under 1 year old £199 per year
1-2 years old £399 per year
2-5 years old £599 per year

In this leaflet it also says it DOES NOT include wear and tear cover for brakes, battery or clutch!!! Last years policy only omitted the Battery.

So its looking less and less worthwhile, as long as when the car is 34 months old I can pay to extend the warranty again (provided the mileage is less than 60k)

I still have a full year VXL warranty to run (13 months), so have they tried to over charge/ miss quoted?

    j13hdb: The leaflet says:

MOT Test insurance. Almost all faults identified as part of the MOT inspection are covered, up to a maximum of £750 inc VAT.
    - Lighting and signal equipment
    - Steering and Suspension
    - Braking System
    - Seat Belts
    - Fuel System

Available on all cars over 2 years old, where the MOT is required within the Warranty Plus period of cover.

What leaflet are we talking about? I was referring to the option to extend with a Net Q warranty once the Vx 3 year has expired. With that, if you extend this when the car is still under three years old at time of buying the warranty then it's around £399 (depends on engine size) and is more (£499 I think for same engine size) if the car has tipped over three years old.

Basically I'd be inclined to do nothing, save your money and let your Vx warranty cover you up to three years - then consider taking out a Net Q warranty as per the details in my other threads.

Wardy - I think they've made some mistake there. Thos figures don't sound right. £399 is a years fulll Net Q warranty once the Vx warranty has expired.

Also what you have to add in is the cost of a service during the extra yr, so you are at £400 for the cover and another £200 for the service, @ £600 in total, minus £100 or £40 dep on if you use an indy or service yourself, leaves you £500 to play around with, I can't say which way is best, but if the car is reliable and feels up to scratch, I wouldn't consider the extra yr, but on the flip, if you are self employed it will be tax deductable.
