Default Possible end of the road for the 1.9Cdti?

    Hi all,

Now we know that the new Vauxhall Antara is going to be sporting a (seemingly) NEW 2.0 Cdti (150 Bhp) engine (as per their website and the Antara colour brochure), does this mean that Vx have decided that the 1.9 Cdti is likely to be more trouble than its worth in the future and have changed it?

If so, does anyone know who will be manufacturing the 2.0 Cdti engine (presuming that its not VX themselves of course).

Only thing I find strange was that there wasn't to be a few more BHP squeezed out of a slightly bigger (and probably more newly designed) engine, although I am sure that all you guys out there that 'mod' your motors already have some idea as to what you could possibly get out of it with a box/remap!

The 1.9 is actually an old engine, it is a Fiat engine and has been in the Fiat and Alfa for a few years now. GM have only used it since 2004 in the Vx and SAAB's.

    Caterman,

Thanks for that. I (like others) do know (either a lot or a little) about the history of the 1.9 Cdti engine that has been used for the last few years, but what I was after was possibly some info on the 2.0 Cdti engine, if anyone out there does in fact know anything about it.

I don't know too much, but I do know the new 2.0 CDTI is a GM Daewoo built unit. Probably (not certain) designed by those guys too.

It'd have to be good to replace the 1.9 CDTI, we shall see...

Reliable would be a start though!

2.0 cdti is Daewoo-fabrication (made in Korea); critics are not very good and I don't think it will replace the 1.9.

The 1.9 was developed by Fiat, first to be used for Alfa, with GM money in the time that there was a joint venture between GM and Fiat.

2.0 CDTi has probably rooked all the tech from the Fiat engine and re-engineered it to what one would expect from Vx, being Daewoo shouldn't offend anyone and it will be anounched as a Chevy engine in this case anyway, I think if you want Daewoo these days you'd better go to Currys and be looking for a fridge.

The 2.0 CDTi has absolutly nothing in common with the 1.9, as SIG63 has said, it is a Korean built Daewoo sourced unit, this engine is being used in the Antara as the Antara itself is also built in Korea.

From what I have been told, the 1.9 CDTi will be used in the Vectra replacement and not the Antara's 2.0. The 1.9 CDTi will be available in the Vectra replacement in either 170/180PS state of tune and also the following are rumoured.

    1.9 CDTi 100PS (8v/16v?)
    1.9 CDTi 140PS (8v/16v?)

This pretty much falls into line with the competition like VAG group.

Apparently there was talk of the 1.9 CDTi being used in the Antara but logistics of where the car is built prevents it happening and GM had access to the 2.0.

Too early to say if the 2.0 CDTi is any good or not, but I am sure we will soon find out.

The current 1.9 CDTi 16v 150 engine was originally a Fiat 2.0 Petrol twin cam engine, and the 'basic' design was developed into the current 1.9's.

After owning two of them, I think the 1.9 is a cracking engine.

Stands corrected, I was working on an article I saw a while back that made it seem like a bored out 1.9.

To be honest, I thought it was a stroked or bored out 1.9 when I first heard about it, but when it appeared on the latest version of TIS, it was clearly different, and now more info has come about it has cleared things up.
