hi guys, im in the mind to try an insignia but havent heard anything good. gearboxs arent good. ay present i drive a bog standard vectra c 1.8

See if you can find one for sale without a gearbox and take it for a test drive. Buying one of the non-transmission special editions would take away your worries about gearbox problems. I was in the same boat when I bought my Signum years ago - I was concerned about EGR valves and swirl valves so I sought out a version that has neither.
