    Default ABS Light On Success

Thanks to others on the forum posting up their knowledge I have solved an ABS light on problem for £5.

    The method:
    Battery Diconnnected....wait a little while
    ABS connector at ECU detached.
Test from connector with multi-meter on ohms scale (2000 ohms) for sensor circuit resistance values across the pins (the connector NOT the ECU pins)

    7/8 (RH Front Sensor)
    19/20. (LH Front Sensor)

    9/10 (RH Rear Sensor)
    21/22 (LH Rear Sensor)
7/8 was the only one to show no continuity at all, the others returned values.

    Where was the break?
Disconnect first ABS Connector under wheel Arch.

My heath robinson method was to get the blue and brown conductors out of a bit of household twin and earth. Flatten the copper at the ends with a hammer and poke these into the ABS twin conductor plug under the wheel arch then test for continuity between pin 7 and the brown wire and pin 8 and the blue wire. Other more professional methods may be available
Yes all hunky dory there...continuity on both wires to under the wheel arch first connector.

My method then went a bit off piste. Disconnected the ABS hub Sensor at the strut connector and tested that..first. Yes that in its own right showed a resistance of the order of 500-700 ish ohms

    Then to the offending item

The small section of wiring from the connector attached to the strut to the connector on the wheel arch.

External appearances would suggest that the wire was in perfect condition, no obvious cuts or abrasions, but there was no continuity on one of the conductors

The next bit may not be so easily repeatable, but there are a few Vectra's appearing in scrapyards now, and one just happened to be up on a raised platform. Got the appropriate wire out with the two connectors and got it for £5!

Continuity on the replacement was intact and immediately on fitting ABS light out.

    Regards Neil

So here’s my problem, I had problem with abs light coming- whenever it was raining. Then one day it just won’t go away. I went to mechanic and he said that I’ll need to replace wheel bearings. So I was driving like that for few months. and then replaced the right front wheel bearing and the light is still on. It’s showing error that voltage is too low. By reading this post I thought that the problem could be the same wire, so I swapped that piece of wire from left side (working side) to right side with no success (showing the same error ) and from right side to the left which cause error on the left. So there’s problem with that connector, but as the good connector didn’t work on right side then it’s not only the connectors fault. And I noticed that the sensor plug (replacement) is different from left side. What could be the problem?

when I swapped wires, error on both wheels

Maybe you replaced the wrong side? How did you know right side was faulty
