2.8t brake servo vacuum pump info
Mine failed and Ive found a fair amount of info on the pump and the control relay.
My relay had totally burnt out, you can see corrosion on all connector pin parts but the motor when supplied with 12v did work and create a vacuum. The pump is a Hella UP28.

The pump from GM is about £350 and this price was from sellers who supply genuine parts usually a lot cheaper than a friendly dealer.
VAG group use the same pump on lots of cars BUT, the control relay as you'll see later Hella call it the low-active ECU which typically does not work the correct way. E.G.

So unless you can alter the pcb layout in the VAG relay either buy a used GM one in good condition and refurb the board by wire brushing any track corrosion away and spraying the board with pcb lacquer like i did or make your own control relay set up which shouldn't be hard really as you can buy the UP28 with just a 2 pin plug on it but check the body casting as some look different to the GM one. The VAG ones are the same and just transfer across into the GM mounting brackets. I used the new relay box as the seals should be better and have applied Vasalene to all the pins and sockets to help stop moisture and provide a good seal and connection. Ill also use this on the cars loom female plug to the relay when fitted. I re-floated the solder on the 2 main pins for +12 and earth back to the UEC as these carry the load.

Good morning,
Please find below some information based on your query.
- GM UP28 - 009.428-01 (this pump is not released in IAM, only OE) have the relay box ECU 008 572-01 with control signal: triggering signal for relay, HIGH – active
- VW UP28 have the relay box ECU 008 572-03 with control signal: triggering signal for relay, LOW – active
- The ECU’s, GM and VW, are not interchangeable because of signal characteristics (physically are identical only the functionality are different) , and these ECU’s (relay box from the pumps) are not released separately as a spare parts in IAM
- My recommendation is: if the Vauxhall pump is damaged and the pump ECU is not damaged, try to change the ECU from the VW pump, with the ECU from the Vauxhall pump, to use only the VW pump together with the Vauxhall ECU.
We are not able to assist any further on the part as the GM version was not an IAM part and we do not have this version or data available as it will be held at the vehicle manufacturer.

At least the Z28NEX vacuum pump isn't a copy Z19DTH ones you Z20NET lovers have on the end of your engines

I upgraded my pump to the 2.8 VXR version as part of the upgrade to retrofit the TC and Sport functions on my 2.0, 1.8 and the 1.9 tractor.. I will be cleaning my garage again this weekend preparing for the next fire sale, i am sure i had a few spares lying around...

I think the only similarities between the two parts is that they're both round.
