problem when pulling away at lights etc.

I have a 2005 Signum 1.9 CDTI automatic no mods to engine

When I pull away gently from stop I have no problems, but some times and only sometims when I pull away with some real power, after about three seconds the car pulls to the left, and I can even feel the streering wheel slightly turn ...anyone got any Idea what this could be ? is this a known fault ? Thanks for your ideas guys !!!!!!!!!!

it's not a fault - it's just the way the power is distributed to the front wheels, and the fact that it's done unevenly.

it's a common 'characteristic' of front wheel drive cars, not sure if the fact that its an automatic amplifies the effect.

have you mainly driven rear wheel cars in the past?

my last three cars were all vectra's older ones though never the 'C'. and this is the first automatic Ive had, so maybe that what is..plus the 150PS is more powerful than other cars Ive had ! thanks for your help mate

Good way to get rid of this problem is to go easy on the accelerator!

A positive side effect of this is that you will save money on fuel too!

Your delay is probably the time it takes for the turbo to kick in - Torque steer is common is FWD cars with drive shafts of unequal lengths. Under hard acceleration the car will veer towards the side with the longer shaft

You should try getting the power down in a 275BHP FWD Volvo T5!
Now thats torque steer!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the wet, its best just to park up!
