Well, for the vast majority who couldn't care less, I have an update - I've managed to beat my own record, and squeeze 585 miles out of one tank.

Now it's difficult to be entirely accurate with this, because the orange light has just come on, but not started flashing yet, and I don't know exactly how much fuel is left when the orange light comes on.

But assuming it's around 5 litres, I recon economy has averaged approx 45mpg.

I was quite pleased with that, until a friend with a hated diesel told me he gets 825 miles for the same amount of fuel.

Much as they repulse me, I may have to consider changing to a diesel since I'm doing a lot of miles. Yuuuk...

Seriously avoid the diesel, unless its new and on PCP / lease, where when it goes wrong its the dealer's problem to sort. (I know of 2 taxi drivers who have had <18 month old diesels, chew up their engines) Plus anything sub Euro 6 is liable for punitive LEZ charging / forbidden from coming in.
Personally turbo petrol is where I'm going next post Saab (albeit I'm trying to nurse the Saab onwards for 2 or 3 more years till my finances improve as there is nothing locally for <£2500 that is any better than what I have at the moment)

I'm an unpaid carer so hence I'm skint, ergo I have time to spend fixing it, otherwise if I was working I would have punted the Saab by now and bought something less "tempremental" - i.e. a Toyota or a Honda, boring but reliable (wife's very neglected 1999 Yaris learner mobile still ran like a clock - started without complaint no matter the weather, shame the bodywork was dissolving with age)

Thats good milage, i manages just over 600 out of my 1.9 cdti sri 120 this week and yhe lightbhadnt come on yet..

I get between 400 and 500 out of my 3.0 v6 cdti siggy
