The cartridges are balanced you need to have the actuator set properly.. although some places sell unbalanced cartridges.. avoid those

I got the mrs to stand at the front of the car when I revved it and she reckons there's a definite shriek coming from the boost solenoid and its buzzing on shutdown also (which I'm sure I read somewhere is a sign that its on the way out)

So something else to swap out

replace it, than take the broken one apart... you'll soon see why it's a non serviceable item

Cartridges are ok as long as you get a good make and the actuator is adjustable but leave it as it is and unclip it. That is what I did on my daughters astra as long as it isn t miles out I believe the ECU will still control boost pressures but others may know better. I just know as long as you are careful to unclip the actuator and fit the cartridge in the position it came off them refit the actuator clip its fine.

Good one are balanced already and are about £150

The screeching noise is usually caused by a leak at the exhaust manifold gasket, or a crack in the exhaust manifold. This would also cause excess turbo lag. Sometimes one or two of the exhaust manifold studs snap off or come loose. This is relatively easy to check in situ once you get the heatshield off.

I've had that screech before. Mine is a different type and it's coming from the solenoid rather than the turbo hard to explain really
