GM 88862472 or any gearbox oil that has this spec: 75W-85 GL-4 and the manual says 2.8 liters...
After my gearbox was re-built recently, I changed to Millers CRX 75w90 NT+ competition grade.
2.1l came out, so that's what I put back in.

There's a difference between "Which oil will be ok in my gearbox" and the "best oil", which is the question posed in this thread. Castrol Syntrans is very good and is the direct replacement for the Castrol SMX-S mentioned in my How2 Link. You've mentioned using an additive, which is a very good idea. I highly recommend a tube of Molyslip Gearbox Protector grease. It used to be available at Halfords, but if no longer then it can be found online.
Lastly, under no circumstances put 2.8 litres of oil in. The correct amount is to end up with 2.4 litres, however 0.2 litres stays in the casing when you drain it, so put 2.2 litres of new oil in. The early F40s had 3.2 litres in them, but GM found that it caused graunchy gear changes, so they switched to 2.4l and issued a service bulletin to dealers to reduce the oil in existing cars should customers complain about the gearchange quality.
I used the GM oil in my VXR
