    Default The Decision

I've got the new car bug early, normally it starts at 24 mths and I go for it at 30 mths.

My choices if I can do the deal.

Hyundai Sonata TDi Auto, currently @ 11.5k, 6k on an 06

Vectra SRi CDTi Auto currently 12.7k 14k on an 06

Skoda Octavia DSG, brand new 13.5k

My quandry is this, if I get the Vec, it's gonna do 25mpg estimated
If I get the Hyundai, it's gonna do 23 mpg and be woth nothing when I want to renew
If I get the Skoda, it's brand new, reliable and will return 35 mpg+ and ppl will still want it when I get rid of.

The Vec positives are, she's prettier to look at, everyone expects me to have a Vec, and it'll be no prob to sell on.

The Skoda however, is more comfy, economic and ime reliable than both of the others, BUT, I don't dig the shape of it, if Vx made a DSG, this convo wouldn't be happening.

    What do you think?

TBH ian my veccy with box on and town driving returns over 40 mpg so canny understand wher you get the 25 mpg that you stated above, although i do like the skodas but the interior trim doesnt seem to be very hard wearing IMO

It's an automatic, my mate has just got one and his says 34 @21 mph cos he does 40 miles a day on the motorway, plus he's a pensioner, I know if I get one and use it chasing the work I'm only gonna see 25, my ave speed never gets above 15 mph normally, his motor is gorgeous and I desire one the same, but with a family and mortgage to consider, I'm looking for the most eco route to get back into a slushbox.

Had a look at your choices,

    1) The Hyundai is a good looking car, its got the Honda look about it and the couple I have seen look quite 'classy' however the interior is so-so and the aftermarket stereo is 'orrible'. However the dealers and waranty are good, at that price i presume you are looking at a CDX which has loads of kit.

    2) Skoda, as bland as dish water to look at unless its the Vrs, has the worst grill since Ssanyong (spelling?) Yep its reliable but again everything is just 'functional' would you look at it and 'feel' good driving it, I wouldn't. Also you would have to get the 2.0Tdi (140Bhp) with the DSG, as I couldnt go back to a (105Bhp) Tdi. You are right about the DSG box though its auto perfection and could get me into an auto. Skoda dealers are good so another plus.

    3) Vec, you know all about that so no comments required

The Sonata is actually a 2.0 TDi auto, but from what i read it's still a thirsty beast.

Well, if my opinion is worth anything...

I drive Skodas, amongst other things, at work, they are Vrs's but they DONT go wrong.
They get the driven 12-18hrs a day and just keep going.

The Vectra is a great car, I bought one and I love it, but if my livelihood depended on it then I'd go for the Skoda.

I am sure the hyundai is a good car (??) but it'll be worth abot 50p in a couple of years!!

New Veccy Ian. Look for an Estate. SRi XP. We'll be Veccy twins!

DSG when it goes wrong - and it will - will drive you up the wall. 55 plate A4 I know of, has been in the garage with DSG faults more than mine's been in for Turbo problems. Dropping into 2nd and getting stuck there is a favourite trick. Plus no matter what you say, no matter how much gloss you put on it, no matter how much you say they're built by VW now, IT'S STILL A F*****G SKODA!

    Hyundai? Financial suicide mate.
