symbol on dash, wondering what it is.
Hi all, new to this forum and owning a Vectra, I have a 1.8 16v 52 plate, for the time being. My previous car died and needed something for work, so picked her up for 300 quid with only 60 odd k on the clock, no mot, but she passed with flying colours. Anyway, when I turn the ignition on, there is a symbol that appears for a few seconds then goes off when starting the car or after few secs. The symbol is an oil can with a spanner going vertically through it. I'm just wondering if anyone could shed some light on what it is? I'm assuming, it service due! But I want to be sure.
Thanks in advance
Arran

Welcome! you are assuming right... now before you ask anymore basic questions the car should've come with a user manual... if you don't have it... you can download it from here or directly from Vauxhall's website... you'll need it anyway as you'll need to know where fuses and relays are located... plus you'll also want the passkey for the car just in case you need it later on... if you don't have it Vauxhall can supply it for you but you'll need to prove to them that you own the car so bring your papers and ID with you.

Sounds like a service reminder like you suspected.
Get a scanner to read the DTC codes to make sure. You may also reset the service interval with it.

Thank you for your responses. I did manage to find the symbol after posting! It's means change engine oil. I will be doing a a full service in the next couple of weeks anyway. I'm assuming that this could be a contributing factor to the bad fuel consumption I'm getting. Then again, I've come from a diesel, so maybe it's that. Again, thanks for the responses.

Think you’ll still have to clear reminder of dash. Can’t remember exactly how something like brake pedal, dash button turn on ignition someone will know.
