    Default Dieting....

Well itís safe to say my eating junk and weight has got well out of hand. Iíve gone from a 34Ē waist to a 38-40Ē waist and when I got on the scales yesterday I was a scary 21st!!

Iím not a very active person so one thing I need todo is get more active. The thing Iím going to struggle with is a diet so my question is do any of you diet? If so what diets do you do my wife thinks we should do the slimming world one but I hate going to the weekly meetings. Iím a big meat eater also.

Iíve got to do this even more for my 1 year old daughter. I donít want to be known as the fat dad or the dad who canít play because Iím always to tired.

So any help would be great on what diet plans you follow etc. My biggest problem is takeaways and fast food when Iím peckish at work

I honestly don't see the need to do "this diet" or "that diet", i.e. the branded ones - let's face it, their raison de etre is to earn money for whichever company thinks them up. Common sense and willpower will get you further. Start reading the grams of fat listed in the ingredients of the food you eat and you will soon see which foods are the worst for you, then reduce your consumption of them. Skip a snack meal whenever you can, and you'll feel better for it. Walk short or moderate journeys instead of driving. Dont be one of those people who drive round the supermarket car park for ages desperate to get a space right near the store just to minimise the distance they have to walk - park right at the end of the car park so you get some exercise in, plus you'll get less parking dents on your Vectra. If you're lucky enough to work in a tall building, like I am, get in the habit of never using the lift, use the stairs instead (even if you work on one of the lower floors, just walk to the top anyway and then come back down). I work on the 8th floor and after eating lunch at my desk I find an excuse to go downstairs, then take the stairs back up; that's 21 stairs per floor (tall ceilinged commercial building obviously, not like a residential house) making 168 stairs. Nowadays I do it twice, 10 minutes apart, for greater effect. Oh, and never ever drink any sugary drinks like full fat Pepsi or Mars milkshakes etc.

I'd say listen to your body, because we all react to different things. For example, the worst things for me are basic carbs = pasta and white bread which I love the most... My body reacts positively to eating read meat and vegetables, and also eating good fats like avocado, olive oil and nuts. I can eat lot of fat (from meat) and salads, and my good colesterol is up and bad is down. I also changed from having milk and sweetener to whole cream for my coffee, and it has helped my measurements. But each to their own, check what is good for you.

I'd just try to add some exercise and loose some unnecessary calories if you have some during the day. If necessary, think how many beers you can have during a weekend without it affecting your goals. It's not many, unless you eat a lot less

You know what you need to do. IF YOU ARE HONEST WITH YOURSELF.

I ended up over 22st cuz I ignored what I knew. Drank too much, ate too much.

Ended up diabetic... so listened to me body and stopped drinking 4 pints every night and enjoyed an occasional 4 pints. Dropped to 15st, now back up a bit but aware of my weight.

You can do it IF you want to. That's the key, not which diet you follow.

In the words of Nike,..... Just do it!

    All the best
