The primary function of reversing lights is to warn others of your direction of travel, rather than to illuminate the way - hence why some cars get away with only having one reversing light, with a foglight taking the same place on the opposite side of the car.
the way I look at it, is having had extensive neck surgery I cant turn neck to see behind so use mirrors, when reversing out of a parking space across our works car park its not possible to see whats behind so use mirrors instead. no lights on car park and slight incline to reverse out of. my old vectra and other cars before never had problems. maybe you suggest I use fog lights instead..
I’ve done that sometimes when there’s not enough light, when I had a van for racing I fitted a work light under the rear bumper connected to the reverse lights that worked amazingly
