Default Compatible head units and adaptor leads

    Hi there

Im looking at changing the head unit (CDR 2005) to something a bit better.
I've looked through a lot of threads on this and it seems a total minefield.

I've also read even if the stalk controls work, it can mess up your cruise control.

Im looking around 200 pounds for the head unit so if anyone has successfully fitted an after market one, could you tell me the make of leads and unit you got?

As I only have the 2 line display, from what I read, thats half canbus due to no trip computer / flip wheel on the stalk.

Have already purchased the facia and ISO lead from VX.

    Cars a 2.2 SXi, 2003.

    thanks

If its 2003, it will be half canbus, which should make it a bit easier I think the problem some ppl have had is faulty adaptors for the steering wheel controls, which have sorted themselves out after replacing the parts.

I wasn't bothered about the display or steering wheel controls working - and probably saved myself about £100 too!

Zappa - It all Depends on what you want it to do? Personally I'd go for an Alpine Head Unit. IMO they are some of the best. I have never had a Problem with my Old one - or the one I have currently, I find they have a lot of features and some benefits over their rivals.

Tell us what you are after and no doubt there will be Recommendations.

i.e. iPod Support - CD/MP3 Support that sort of thing.

I am with Breezephil, I have always had Alpine, very reliable, well made and sound pretty good. I got a 9857r CD/Tuner for about £180 then used the Alpine adaptor leads to connect to the car it all works a treat.

Thanks for the replies, I was looking at Alpines, something like this one -

    http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/prod...?product=19675

It would be great if someone could confirm the adaptor leads I need. I do already have the VX facia + lead.

I would like to keep the radio infomation on the 2 line VX display but not essential although working cruise control and head unit control from the steering wheel is.

I know a bit over budget for you, but I am very tempted by this one as I really only use my Ipod in the car.

Again I am thinking steering wheel and display connectors are available.

i nearly ordered this one but got the 9850 instead as i didnt like the idea that only half the face comes off so everyone would know what stereo you have and think mmm there must be a ipod near! also as it doesnt have any cd slot i would be stuck if my ipod broke! as for steering controls apline are bring a adapter out and the end of may that does the screen and controls p/n: APFS100OP and should be about the £50 mark.hth
