Default [Z19DTH] New water pump leaking

Hello everyone, I have quite issue and I will try to describe it best as I can.

    My car is Vectra C - 110kw (150HP) Z19DTH 16V 2006
I decided to change the timing belt with water pump so I ordered BOSCH one. Water pump arrived with paper (gasket). After I fitted everything and assembled engine I poured antifreeze and everything flew out from water pump... Probably it will be not tightened bolts enough (I didn't have right adapter to my torque wrench )

    [1] Mentioned untightened bolts
(it could be solved easily) I am going to buy an adapter for my torque wrench today

[2] Damaged surface for the gasket on cylinder head: how to fix this? I read something on the forum about grinding with 600 wet and dry. Is it a good idea?

[3] Stripped threads: Since I did' have the right tool I used just approx. torque so maybe I used too much? If this is that possibility, what is the solution? Helicoils?

[4] It is a paper gasket and it is written in the guide that it shouldn't be used any silicone sealant but I read also many opinions on that.

One last question is, is there any sequence how should be tightened bolts (order)? I know only it should be tightened on 25Nm.

THX so much, so far I hope it can be fixed without moving the car to any workshop.

25nm is easily done by hand basically it is hand tight and 2 times 30 degrees turn on all the bolts... that should be tight enough for it not to leak.... i did this when i changed mine in November as I broke my torque wrench, so had to do it the same way you did...guess work.

one question though did you clean the area and did yo made sure you used some brake cleaner so there is nothing that will cause a leak? If you haven't than that might just be why it is leaking.

Actually, I didn't use because of that and maybe scratched surface I am worried if it is possible to fix. The old gasket was quite glued to the engine block. Is it fine to sand it with 600 sandpaper or maybe copper wire rotary disk?

Sure it can be done by hand I am more worried if I am overtightened it since I have a bad experience with EGR valve, but there are aluminium manifold and only 6 or 8Nm torque to tighten it. If it is not tightened enough it would be good, because I am going to buy an adapter so I can use the Allen key with my torque wrench.

    THX

well than you found the reason why it is leaking, you can clean it of with 600 grind sandpaper, 3m Scotchbrite green or fine wire wool and some brake cleaner, it all has to come off first. Make sure when you remove the waterpump to check the new paper gasket it should be fine, have no tears or deformation... if it hasn't than you can re-use it and it should seal properly... if you are unsure about the gasket either get a new one or use liquid gasket with it so you can try to re-use it ( i would actually get another gasket just so i can do the job in one go)

The gasket for the water pump on the z19dth are metal NOT paper. The best thing to do is get a o/e GM / Saab water pump which come with the metal gasket attached . I have fitted 4 of these to all 4 of our z19dth vectras and have had no problems with sealing them.

Hello everyone, I fixed it. Problem was that I assembled water pump in the wrong way what made metal cut on the edge, I sanded surface with 600 sandpaper (wet) and cleaned with brake cleaner, after that, I refitted water pump with nut lock glue on bolts and tightened to 25Nm with torque wrench and Iw as very careful to tighten all bolts equal. I was going in a circle and tightening them. The gasket is cork one (OEM is metal but aftermarket is usually cork/paper). Assembled without a problem, filled with antifreeze and run engine... Everything all right
