At the moment without the R80 pump and injectors it doesn t smoke excessively.

I pulled 3 of the injectors yesterday but the 4th injector would not move, so today I have a slide hammer that I have borrowed from a friend. Once I have all 4 standard injectors out I can fit the insignia ones with new sealing washers. The insignia Injectors are better for power but need mapping to obtain the extra power but the R80 pump can be just fitted but without mapping it will just provide the pressure the Ecu commands.

Will it smoke excessively well thats a good question......

It will definitely smoke more but Mr Teapot has advised a full power Data run in 4th gear to make fine tuning adjustments and he has said he will make adjustments if the smoke is too much. My own feelings on too much smoke are I am ok with a fair bit of smoke as my car is Sapphire Black but I don t want it too be ridiculous as it is a daily drive that often has the wife and kids in it.....

    My parts list:
Turbo and manifold and downpipe .......................£200 second hand
    Injectors......................................... .................Free second hand
    R80 pump.............................................. .........£130 second hand
    Intercooler hose kit...........................................£59 New
    80mm MAF............................................... ........£25 second hand
4 bar MAP............................................... ..........£15 Budget new
Plus a manifold gasket and Remap makes the whole lot less than £600 in total. I guess if you were fussy you could include the front mount I already fitted but this is still something that cost vasty less than a garage fitting a recon standard unit.

I was under the impression that any smoke, of any colour from the exhaust will be an mot fail as of may last year.

Great result mate and have enjoyed reading your thread so far, keel up the good work and as has been said previously the car must be properly quick, my old tuning box equipped 150 cdti was quick with a rr figure of 186 bhp!

Well to be fair it is a metered smoke test which is not carried out under load. As it is not under load the boost level will not reach anything like its max and therefore the fueling (which will cause the smoke) will not reach max either.

I also have a twin tailpipe so the probe will actually only be metering 50% of what the engine produces so I expect to pass without issues.

If it does fail I also have a very basic map that can be uploaded before the car goes for test and that will 100% get it through the emissions test so Ha!

Only on diesel cars fitted with a DPF
Anything with just a cat is fine for visible smoke. Also the door plate value is taken into account unless it's been worn away where for anything ote 2008 it's 3.0m-1, 2008 to 2014 is 1.5m-1 (though they are trying to get values from manufacturers to stop folk scratching the value off the vin plate)
Mine blew smoke but still only registered 0.56m-1 on the smoke opacity.
Value from twins is averaged between the 2 pipes to get the reading.

Only sticking point might be the new roadside drive by test guns they are seemingly trialling, which can scan the opacity as you drive past(laser or something like that), seemingly used in other places to nab folk and stop them getting around the emissions testing as easily.
The other would be the ever expanding LEZ (low emissions zones) which in the end is how they will get anything pre eu6 diesel off the roads....

So I went for a drive yesterday in the new and improved Vectra and to be fair it didn t disappoint. The Turbo starts to deliver at 2200 and is at full boost by 2800 and the power delivery is absolutely incredible. I am told to expect in the region of 280 bhp with 550 Nm but I need to do a Data run to confirm this but with the weather so bad its impossible to use the full power.

I have also just noticed a split inner CV boot on the N/S/F so another reason not to go flat out.

Can the driveshaft be split fron the extension shaft on the nearside?
