Seems to be down to poor servicing and not using decent oil and regular changes.
Facelift CDTI Insignia has variable oil pump so the issues with oil pressures don't happen. But it's recommended to change seal every 100000 km.
Opel/Vauxhall never admitted design flaw on this one. It's strange, 2.0 CDTI is evolved 1.9 CDTI (Fiat engine) which had no serious issues with design.

a 1.8 insignia compared to a vec 1.8 im guessing same thing, sluggish,no low power, poor fuel usage, and for that price you could get a very good vec with change

Slightly off-topic, but there's a monthly magazine on the shelves called Car Mechanics, which covers servicing and repairs to lots of different makes and models. In February 2018 they purchased an Insignia Elite 2.0 cdti at auction for a couple of grand as a project car to work on for 6 monthly issues of the magazine. Mileage was high at 167k and it came with no service history. They'd bought an E Class Merc in the past that also came without history, but for £16 a main dealer had printed out a list of all the services the car had had. The mag probably hoped to recreate the Insignia's history the same way, but they never did in the end, I suspect because it probably was rarely, if ever, serviced.

They had a list of issues they wanted to address over time, but in the end they spent a further £5,000+ repairing the car, because it was so troublesome, including two engine rebuilds and a new turbo. £7,000 on a 170,000 mile Insignia with no history. Yes, they got to write stories about it each month, but the size of the bills and the level of work far exceeded what they were expecting.

Attached below are two excerpts from the mag, one detailing the bills (which excludes labour costs for the repairs they did in-house), the second lists the problems they had to tackle each month.

And once they - finally - got the car working, someone crashed into the back of it.

Yes WOW indeed and i thought £800 in parts spent on one of our vectra's only to be written off 8months later was a waste. I used to get Car mechanics mag it was always a very good read and one of the few mags i could read from front to back and then reread.

the 3.2 vectra (2003) is parked up on the drive 156,000 miles on, taxed but no insurance, ex police to 96,000 their service history and mine since. not main dealer service.
the 2.0 vectra diesel (2008) 110,000 miles regular (24) trips to France only fault a starter motor serviced before trips, not main dealer serviced.
the 2.0 insignia diesel (2015) 64,000 miles regular service but will be at garage not main dealer.
none so far have had leaks apart from 3.2 where plenum chamber leaked into rear plugs, gasket £100 not been replaced. I might do when t warms up or let next owner do it.

The gasket leaking is a symptom, not the cause of the problem. The root cause is blocked oil breather pipes, which creates a pressure build up that the gasket can't cope with. Until the pipes are unblocked, the oil leak will keep returning.
