Default Sudden increase in fuel consumption

    Bit strange this.
Took the car into the garage for a change of calliper and pads (the previous caught fire).
After collection, all seemed well, (apart from the fact that somehow all my stored data had disappeared).
After 150 miles, my average fuel consumption is 20% less than it was. Over the last 15000 miles I had averaged 41 mpg. I am now averaging 32 mpg. The car runs just the same, the brakes aren't binding, and all my runs are as before.
Has a wire dropped off somewhere?
    All answers gratefully received.

The only thing I can think of is that the cold affects mpg but im not sure it would effect it that much.
Did they do any software updates (hence the data loss) if in doubt take it back to the garage

If you went by the computer figures then yes if it has been reset somehow then that could explain your lower figure as the higher figure is an average over the mileage plus time iirc

Sorry about the tardy response; been busy mopping water out of the passenger side. Some silly b*gger forgot to clean the drain out.
The garage is a very good independent who always do a first class job. I don't think they would do anything software wise when changing a caliper, although Jack the lad may have had a play with something he shouldn't have been playing with; who knows?
It's not cold here, so that's not the answer, and I had 2 different mpg memories running, one from when I bought the car, and the second I reset every now and again. Both were showing nearly the same.
As an aside, things may be improving, so I am keeping a close watch on it.
Now, back to the mopping up :-(

    You're gonna love this..............
I am using more fuel because I am driving slower!
Over here our speed limit has been dropped to 50mph on most roads apart from dual carriageways and motorways.
At 50mph with cruise on the auto box is only in 4th gear; at the higher 60mph limit it was in 5th.
So, answer is to go over to manual mode and nudge it up a cog.
    Who'da thought?

Yes your right about fuel consumtion on the automatics. Our estate z19dth is more economical at higher speeds ,i won't say what speed is best but will say at 50mph it's not as economical as it is at higher ones. Best i've got is just over 54mpg on a 200+ml M6 M1 run and that was fully laden 3 adults 2 children and the kitchen sink.
