Default Anyone know the legalities of riding a motorbike on a car license ?

My missus want me to buy a bike to share with her dad so he can use it to commute to work (there's a logic there somewhere).
We both have had full driving licenses for years, but I don't know what I can ride on my car license i.e 125cc with L plates & no CBT ?

Your full license entitles you to ride up to a 125cc bike with L plates on. You'll still have to do your CBT before you can ride though, and I have a feeling you have to pass your test within 2 years or redo your CBT.

That is correct Paul. CBT lasts 2 years then expires. If you are over 25, you can do your CBT, then take the bike test on a 125 and after two years of holding your licence you then automatically qualify to ride any size of bike. Finally there is the direct access route, you go and take your CBT on a 125, having passed that you are then taught on a bigger machine (usually around the 500/600cc mark) and continue to take lessons on this bigger bike until your instructor thinks you are ready for your test. If you pass, you can ride any size bike straight away...........

..........and kill yourself . No hopefully not lol

Hope that makes things a little clearer

Just as an aside, the CBT only applies to new licences
If the licence is really old and has not been renewed, then the original entitlements still apply!

I lost my D1 entitlement when I changed address and had to get a new photo licence
    How barmy is that!
