I have just phoned technical help at Worcester as I was getting conflicting 'advice' on part numbers..they said to go with 8716 120 9710.

Success!!!...after a few false starts and phone calls I put the new valve on and had the quickest filled, hotest bath I can remember. Like a new boiler!!

Many thanks to Club04 and 08estate for guidence and support. Best £42 I spent in a long time.

If that was underneath the valve it's probably a flow limiter. Doesn't look in great shape!

Different design to the limiter I linked to previously, but then so was your valve.

If the boiler's working well enough without it then there's no need to replace it - maybe your mains flow is low enough for the boiler to heat the water sufficiently without the flow being limited.

You might find the hot water isn't sufficiently hot when the incoming water temperature gets really cold - in which case you can replace the limiter.

The part I used had the same part number as the original although they are completly different visually.I phoned Worcester who confirmed it was the correct part after asking questions at the plumbing supplies place (PTS).
The new one is an 'upgrade' with the limiter inside the brass body. The old one was plastic.
Its like having a new boiler!

That's good. Sounds like they're actually learning from past design errors! The little plastic limiters are rubbish really; it's still a mystery to me how they can melt (not sure whether yours was melted or if it had just disintegrated) when they're situated where they are in the boiler.
