Default Vectra C V6 diesel - driving without oil cap

Hello, and thank you for lovely forum.

Is it possible to drive V6 diesel Vectra C without oil cap in emergency? I was reading some forum posts about driving without oil cap and it seems it is more dangerous for some engines than others. How about this 3.0 Isuzu diesel?

I lost the cap but I should get to the ferry tomorrow morning - 4 hour drive

You will probably have some oil in engine bay...

Cure for this problem was closer than I imagined. The next gas station (1 minute drive away) had "universal petrol caps" which more or less fit.

But there is another, unrelated problem.

Car was running fine with temperature around 85 degrees. Without warning temperature rose to about 95 degrees and heater didn't give anymore warm/hot air. When I stopped the car, coolant was boiling. After letting the car cool down, I filled about 3 litres of coolant and everything seemed to be fine for next 100km of driving - temperature was again steady 85 degrees. But then it got warmer again and some coolant disappeared.

Oil level is steady, there is no foam under the oil cap..

    Has anybody had this problem?
