Hard to start, blue smoke and really rough idle.
Have the car ('07, 1.9 120bhp) about 2 and a half years now, and she's got hard to start this past few months and has a good puff of blue smoke when she does. I can deal with this no problem and it just requires to heat her a few times and then she runs OK.
Last year the camshaft sensor gave up on it and before realising it was it that was the issue I replaced heater plugs and starter motor.
This past week or so, when the car starts (usually after my second attempt, after heating the plugs for 3 or 4 times), it's a very rough idle that shakes the whole car and when attempted to rev, very missy, but once warmed up a little she runs fine.
At the weekend I took out the egr valve and the bit it's connected to (I'm not a very carsy person so don't know the name of it), and cleaned out all the soot from it, which helped a little but definitely isn't the cause of it.
Any one any ideas on what could be the issue? And advise on what I can do to fix it?
Cheers

Have you cleaned the boost sensor too? Mine was clogged up and runs miles better it’s on the back left of the manifold and is fastened by one Allen key

Well the sensor was clogged stupid with gunk.
Got it nicely cleaned out so I'll find out tomorrow morning (when I start the car when it's stone cold) if it's helped any.
Thanks for informing me about that sensor

For anyone that stumbles across this thread, cleaning the boost sensor made a difference of night and day to the running of the car
