    Vehicle : Vectra

    Trim : Design

    Engine : 1.8 VVT ( No2 ! )

    Year : 2007

    Mileage : ... 293 k

    Default Burned out plug

I put this on the 'other' social media site from the mobile, but now I'm sitting comfortably I'll post it here too.

My trusty old 1.8VVT pulled away a bit hesitantly last night, then got worse over the next 5 miles or so, then up pops the engine management light. Missfire cylinder 2 ( pretty obvious I was running on three by then )

Limped home, expecting it to be the coil pack ( always has been with similar symptoms in the past, and always pot 2 on both my Vectra and the wifes 1.8 Astra )

Pulled coil and plugs and found this

Now those who know me, know I mechanically pamper the old girl - service every 10, plugs at 30 ( although they should do far more ) but I've never seen this before. The other plugs were all a lovely golden brown as I'd expect.

Why did it do this ?

This is a bad one that possibly has fallen in the factory during packaging and picked up and put in the box....

I would look down the cylinder with a scope just to check there is no damage to the top of it because it might indicate a bigger problem... Bearing gone on that cylinder.

If that all checks out just replace it and keep driving

Try reading the OPs post again. He mentions "service every 10, plugs at 30" One would presume he means 10,000 and 30,000 miles.

Plugs in my old 2.2 Vectra weren't changed until 86,000 miles (Vx recommend every 80,000 or 8 yrs). they still looked like new when taken out.

So the plugs could have been in a few miles or nearly 30,000 miles, thats why I asked the question. ie how many miles had the plugs done?

    No worries ta Dave

26K thats worrying, I used NGK last change, not saying they are better, guess there can always be a random, unexplained, fault.

Have you had a look in the cylinder Jagrigger? Hope its OK.

Ran a compression check and it's similar to the others three, so assuming nothing serious

In that case replace it or all of them and keep on driving! The bit is small enough to be blown out of the exhaust anyway.
