    Default Transmission trouble

Hi. Everyone. My Vectra C started having transmission problem. When I shift to reverse it hit hard and the car jolt. When I shift on drive, I need to almost floor the accelerator before it moves. There's no power.

Now my mechanic is suggesting draining the transmission oil to put new oil. I heard this is dangerous as it can damage the gearbox. Advice please, thanks.

Fresh fluid would be my first port of call and will not harm anything. Might also be the valve chest (also know as the valve body) you can get these tested and refurbished as specialist gearbox companies. If you still have issues it could be the torque convertor on it's way out, again you can get them refurbished. Worse case your auto box requires a refurbishment.

First thing would be fluid change. If no better pop to you local auto gearbox specialist for a proper diagnostic, search Google for somewhere local to you.

Thanks everyone for your responses. The oil was drained, and new oil put in. No improvement. I guess it's new box then. In this part of the world we are really short of professionals that handle such repairs or refurbishment of these type of vehicles. Japanese cars are more familiar here.

Thanks , that means you have the af33 autobox , have you had it checked for fault codes ?
The af33 was prone to speed sensor issues of which it has two .
the af33 is a very strong gearbox and generally only completely fail if they get coolant in them , the automatic transmission fluid goes through a small cooler that is built into the side of the coolant radiator .
This cooler turns porous and allows the coolant into the auto box and bam its dead .
worth checking as i have seen people replace the autobox and it dies again within 30-50 miles
