tuningboxes do work but they are mostly crude and change signals... thus prompting the ecu to add more fuel... it's a diesel, more fuel means more power... but i'd rather go for a proper map... although the newer boxes are less crude they still do the same rather than having a real map that accounts for everything...
longstory short if you love what the tuningbox does for you know, just wait until you experience a proper remap

So far, if I drive the same as before the fuel consumption is at least the same, obviously trying out the power it uses more, but is so addictive.
Not my experience with a remap.
Car was more economical most of the time unless you were really ragging it.
If you want throttle response try @Teapot

No thanks, I'm happy.
I was answering the OP. Had a few Vecs now, had both remaps and boxes, have been happy with both.

I specialise in throttle response for the 2.8t
Was Teapot taught as i can load the maps on and try them out whereas he doesn't have one now can cannot. He fiddles with the rest though.
Just redone the off sports for my software version, so much better even though what was done last year was good. Hit the wall now

If you intend to do all that work, there may be some sense in waiting for a map, if the box is a bargain and getting to the mapper is a lot of hassle. You can always sell on the box after.
You can't realistically have a tuning box for a hybrid turbo and a good remap (most commercially available are not good) can get more torque from the same hardware.
