Default son's hard work paid off

hi all my son bought this sri as a complete dog and has spent a lot of time and not too much money doing it up, mechanically it has to stay reasonably stock cos of his age and insurance. I think he has made a good job given the finances he has available he's done the brakes, lowered it a bit, shocks bushes, cam belt and vvt sprockets, thermostat, plugs, coils etc etc, oil cooler, blacked out the chrome, smoked the side repeaters, the car cost him nothing to buy so why not. but he's not sure about the wheels.

    Well done

Snowflakes (wheels) inflated correctly, will set this motor up nicely

looks very nice... but look at other wheels than the snowflakes, they are prone to cracking, as are the vxr wheels... so all he needs to do is look around for wheels that he likes and go for those anything 18 or 19 inch will make it look loads better, but thinking about insurance he might be better of with standard SRI wheels in 17 inch...

he took the standard sri wheels off because they were in a shocking state, as most seem to be and he replaced them with these but is now thinking about having the originals refurbished

he should refurbish them they are kinda build weird with them sticking out on the spokes instead of the rim (hence the state they get in) but once they are refurbished and he goes for a nice gun metal colour or oem silver they will look nice but he should stay well clear of curbs as they like to rub on them.. but when they are refurbished they do look nice.

Personally I'd go for snowflakes ... I think they suit the Vec's perfect. That said, it looks sweet as it is, I wish I had a car like that when I was younger and first started out! I was stuck with a clapped out Metro lol

Snowflakes tend to break / crack because a lot of users just take pot luck / dont read the handbook and don't inflate them to the Vx recommended pressures.

Had mine on the car for 5 years before the engine failed and I broke the car. Not one single problem over 50k miles. TPMS Valve monitoring does help keep you up to date though and is a well recommended retrofit IMO.

PS - Search on here for 19" Wheels and Tyre Pressures - From the GM Vectra Manual

It's a forum "sticky" in the handling and braking section.
