    Default AFL Lights

    Anyone got these at all?

We have a mk5 Golf GTI with Bi-Xenons and they are worth every penny in looks and brightness, and nice white/blue.

So I want to spec them for my Vectra but, I'm not sure what the vauxhall ones are like, and you have to have the AFL type that turn.

Are they also a blue coloured light?

Whats the deal with the turning parts, are they good?

    Dave,

I have AFL's fitted to my SRI. All I can say is they are well worth the money. Excellent performance and look. They only thing I have changed is the bulbs. They come from the factory with Osram D1's bulbs which have a colour temprature of 4300 kelvin. These have excellent output but shine more white than blueish. I changed the bulbs for 6000 kelvin which have the blue effect but ever so slightly less light output.

Nearly all car makers with HIDS use the 4300K bulb, the blue-ish effect comes from the reflector in the headlight.

If I was buying a new Vectra and had the chance to order them with AFL it would be the first option box ticked.

    Paul.

That's good to hear Paul, my new 1.9 CDTi 150 is due in a week or two and that was one of the boxes I ticked.

I am hearing mixed reviews about AFL, It would be interesting to see what others think.

I've also gone for the Plus pack, ESP+ and IDS+ as well

    Hi Paul,

This is just one of the threads on this site (See page 2): http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread...hlight=brother

I had xenons on my last car, and now I won't have a car without them!

I noticed you have change your bulbs to 6000K, Is that a 5min job and are they D2S or D2R bulbs?

    Stu.

The bulbs are D1's that are fitted from factory. You have to remove the headlight to change them, bit of hassle but worth it.

Reading the link above, I have heard of some AFL's misting up, but this is common on most Vauxhall's now even on standard headlights. I have had no trouble with mine at all either misting or malfunctioning. I have to agree though that if something does go wrong out of warranty they could be costly to repair/replace.

I must admit, my last car the xenon's did mist up a bit. However, this seemed to be isolated to the winter months only.

Not wanting to sound selfish, I'll be getting a new car before the warranty runs out, so any problems will be someone else's.

To be honest that's my opinion also, usually mine are gone before they are 3 anyway. It's like most extra spec on cars, once you have had it you miss it or want it on your new one.

That was me in tho link ...

My brother is a taxi driver, just works the weekends as he has a full time job. The company has a Vectra Estate with AFL on it. It has been in countless times for faults with the AFL, dunno the ins and outs of it but he said the car spends 1/2 it`s life in the garage which even under warranty for a taxi driver costs money. The company have about 30 cars, and the the vectra estate stands out from the crowd with it`s problems, the 2nd place for unreliabilty goes to a Zaffy !! My brothers opinion of afl, putting the problems aside, is that it is a pointless gimmick, and because he is driving a car with ordinary lights 99% of the time he finds the afls offputting and distracting as he isn`t used with them . I guess if it was your main car it would be different as you would be used to it.

All 2nd hand info and not my personal views, just thought it was worth sharing. He has put me off them for sure ...
