tailgate opening button not working
Car is a 2012 Sports Tourer Elite Nav Auto with 60,000 miles on the clock
I have had the above vehicle from new and it has the 10 year warranty.
The tailgate opening button which is located just above the number-plate no longer works and my dealer wants £75 from me to diagnose the fault and check with Vauxhall whether or not it is coverd by the warranty. Whilst the £75 would be refunded if the warranty covers the fault I do not wish to lose £75 when I can fix it cheaper doing myself.
Does anyone know whether or not this fault will be covered by the warranty?
(I understand there is a Technical Service Bulletin regarding this problem. Does it cover my vehicle?)
I have written to Vauxhall and their response was to send me a copy of the warranty terms and conditions.
Thanks,
Dave

considering its location it could be just corroded connections, can you pop it out and check it over?

Thanks Caveman.
My understanding is that it doesn't pop out and has to be accessed by removing the trim. I will certainly however give it a go if it is not covered by the warranty.

Have you had every service done by Vauxhall or a garage that's used approved vx parts?
If the latter, then the parts would have to have been approved by vx so the 10 year warranty could be continued

Yes, all service carried out by dealer and warranty is still valid.

Aye, RBH you are absolutely correct if the fault is covered by the warranty. The question is "is it".
Thanks Dave

yes - all depends whether covered or not - as even Vauxhall themselves have scrapped this warramty.......
A quote from the terms and conditions...........
"The main warranty excludes routine service and maintenance items, natural wear and tear, and non-approved modifications or conversions. This means that at seervice and MOT you could easily find parts need replacing that Vauxhall's warranty does not cover."
There is a term there about wear and tear - that's the most common get out clause.........
Depends how nice your dealer is too - not much chance if it's Lenzie Vauxhall (Arnold Clark) - they are even more miserable than Gillespies that proceeded them......

Thank you bigwul you understand exactly where I am coming from.
I again directly contacted Vauxhall and asked "if the switch is faulty would it be replaced under the warranty" to be told "that is up to the warranty team". I then of course asked how to contact the warranty team and was told "they will only speak to the garage".
I was hoping with my original post that someone previously had this problem and that a precedent had been set.
