Preventive 5 minute clean of drainage holes goes a long way
Hello everyone,
Two weeks ago I went to get my car cleaned and after that with AC on that I noticed some water coming from under the glovebox... I thought to myself, that probably the guy that cleaned it have put water in a wrong place and now my AC is forcing it in the cabin. It wasn't much.. just several drops, so I decided not to investigate further at that time. Some days passed and a big rain storm poured onto me, while I was in traffic. A lot of water came into the cabin from that same place. Next day I investigated and found that under the wipers and the plastic that covers their linkages, there are two drain holes ( one left in front of the cabin filter, and one on the right) that should drain the water, that is coming from the windscreen, to the road bellow. Mines were solid shut with leafs and dust, so the water level build up and started pouring from the cabin filter to the underside of the glovebox.
The entire noise insulation and carpeting (5cm thick in places) in front of the passenger seat was wet, I drained like 3 - 5 liters of water. 5 days now I have the floor disassembled and am letting it to dry, also had several 3 hour sessions with a hairdryer, but it's a slow process. I hope that the smell of wet dog will disappear when it's fully dried...
Please take 5 minutes of your time to look for these drainage holes and check their condition, as you can't believe how I regret not checking mines in time! I hope I can help someone by posting this. Admins, please move this tread if there is a better place for it.

Cleaned mine the other day (cos the front passenger well was deep in water!). Took off the thick rubber strip that runs across the engine compartment - and lifted the pollen filter flap - to discover a pool of water. I poked a stick down the drain rubber - and got wet feet with the gush of water. I bought a new pollen filter and replaced. Whilst there - I decided to check the driver's side drain. Not so easy! I prised up thescuttle trayand stuck the handle of a large screwdriver under it to keep it up. The drain rubber is under the wiper mechanism. I cleared it with one of those flexi-tools that are used to pick up items that you drop in the engine bay (only a few quid and very useful!). It was partially blocked, and with a lot of gunk being dislodged. My car is 3 years old and it's the first time I've had to do this.
if its blocked the water comes through the pollen

If it’s a veccy C then check under the pollen filter as there is another drain tube there. You have to lift the flap on the plastic cover having first removed the bonnet rubber seal. The drain tube itself can be reached without moving anything but is not easy to see.

Exactly what I had to find out the hard way. Just posted this, as it may serve as a reminder for someone, not knowing for these drainage ports.

I did mine not to long ago but it is nice that people actually place a reminder to this easily avoidable problem i used a piece of garden wire to unblock mine

I check mine every couple of months and have taken the rubber grommet out completely as this widens the hole and I have had no problems since

Thanks - keep this tip live.
Thanks for this!
I've just joined to search another issue, but reading through past threads came across this.
I've just had a look and seriously there was enough composted soil from leave detritus in there to grow potatoes! It must have been building up for years.
I had to remove a whole bagful of this to even see the bottom and needless to say the little rubber grommet was totally blocked. I was probably one downpour away from having my passenger footwell flooded and possible fan motor damage.
Whilst I'm at it I've ordered a new CU3337 filter element as the old one is completely black and clogged.
Thanks to the OP and all who have alerted us to this problem.
Cheers, Rog.
