    I know your probably most of the way through the job but if this thread is read by some one looking to do this job in future I found that a 3/8” drive socket set with a universal joint and extensions was very handy along with the Allen key.

    I did also use a 1/4” drive set only because it cut down on the amount of tool swapping.

    I know they are called Suction Control Valves but it did catch me out when I went to remove them, just by the vacuum that must be created by them and then refitting them I had to use a lever to push them all the way in.

    That's brilliant, thanks very much for digging out and posting.

    Good idea re. putting all useful information in the post for anyone attempting the job in future.

    I'll post a few pictures I have been taking during the week with a few comments or observations, socket sizes, tips to simplify removal of various parts, etc. It took me a while to work out the bottom bolt underneath the plastic boost pipe was an allen headed cap bolt. After much scratching of my head and thinking how on earth am I going to get a 10mm socket or ring spanner in there! And my 3/8" drive socket, short extension bar and 12mm socket has already been put to good use. Access to some of the top manifold bolts and egr pipe is really tight.

    Default Progress updtae

    Did not get around to replacing the valves after all. The car now also needs a replacement windscreen, front suspension spring and tyres to get it through an MOT.

    Decided I much prefer petrol engines, so would not be planning to keep it once repaired. Would probably cost more to repair than it is worth.

    Just need to decide whether to scrap it or break it for parts. Quite a few parts could maybe be sold on;
    - 314 front and 292 rear brakes
    - full leather
    - autodim mirror, rain & light sensor
    - CD70 colour sat nav
    - DPF(cleaned and new sensors 20k miles ago)
    - 18" wheels

    Is there anything else that would be worthwhile stripping from the car?
