I left Sky about 10 years ago and have never wanted it back. I still use the box as a freesat box, and especially now seeing as Dave is on Freesat (it never used to be) that was the only channel I ever missed from Freeview. I just set my favourites to all the channels you can get for free, saves having to wade through 2 bazillion pages of TV listings.

I also have an Amazon fire box (not stick) which I use for all the free on demand services like BBC, ITV, All4, Demand5 - and as a front end for all the media I have on my NAS.

I got rid of sky about 15 years ago as I found I never watched it. I gave up watching tv about 10 years ago as again I never watched anything “live”. I’m happy watching stuff on catch up and YouTube mostly, get dvds from the library if I fancy watching something I don’t have. A few friends have media servers I can access so watch things on that too, saves a penny or two as well more money for car parts

I would never have Sky simply because of that boll*x Murdoch. VM suits me well alongside a media server running Plex and a private tracker.

We just have a smart TV and use the catch up App's and never watch 'as its aired' (Watch what we want when we want and never BBC) so you dont need a TV licence either.

I can affirm that, my mate had the receiver taken out of his tv so that he could not receive 'as its's aired', but the inspector's in the van still did him for not having a licence 'cos he could still use catch up, and that needs a licence, whether you watch BBC or not

    Re licence.

    All the answers are HERE

    Brief summary:
Do I need a TV Licence if I only ever watch on demand services (like catch up TV), DVDs or downloaded programmes? You don’t need a licence if you only ever watch on demand or catch up programmes on services other than BBC iPlayer (and you also never watch live TV programmes on any channel, including on iPlayer).
You also don’t need a licence to watch DVDs, Blu-rays or videos.
You need a TV Licence to download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer – live, catch up or on demand. This applies to any device and provider you use.

That sounds fishy - first off you have to consent to them entering your premises to check, which you are not legally obliged to do so despite what they may tell you at the door.

You DO NOT need a licence just by having a laptop / PC / tablet / toaster.
